Choose wisely. Make sure your communication channels are open. You don't want to end up in e.g. Japan where nobody speaks a word of English.

Hi,

I am in the early stages of producing a new medical programme for Channel 4 that will be dealing with medical tourism and British people going to Europe having treatment paid for by the NHS using an E112 form.

Do any of you know any one who has been through this process or who is going to go through the process?

If so please contact me on 02074228253.

Thanks!

Unfortunately we don't know of any insurer who covers this at present. There are reports of insurance being offered from abroad, but this should be considered with caution.

Hi

I am considering going to thailand for a cosmetic surgery I have had quote from US and Uk and belgium and thailand is the best for me in terms as I am from asian origin. They do maintain my ethnic look after surgery which none of the western based surgeon can offer. But I need a good travel Insurance to cover my time in Thailand any suggestions will be greately appreciated.

A word of caution for anyone travelling abroad to receive treatment. Your travel insurance is unlikely to cover you if you are travelling to obtain medical treatment. Check the medical conditions section of your insurance.

Medical tourism is a fascinating topic, with potentially great significance for the provision and financing of health care.

I've started a website www.medtripinfo.com, which provides news and information about international medical travel/medical tourism. I'm also kicking off discussion forums and I'd much appreciate your participation!

I recently returned from Singapore where I visited 10 hospitals and met with doctors, hospital administrators and government officials. You can read about it at www.medtripinfo.com

Thank you,

David Williams
CEO, MedTripInfo

Another up and coming destination is India. Since a large number of doctors in the US are of Indian origin anyway with family ties in India, new hospitals in India are attracting them back to offer quality healthcare at low cost. www.medical-treatment-in-india.com is a cool web site that gives you the info you need to make your decision.
