Hi Dave,
Unfortunately it is true that many companies have a blanket exclusion for claims related to any sort of terrorist incident. A few, like ourselves here, are starting to cover such claims, albeit only for medical expenses, Hospital Benefit, Personal Accident compensation and under Hijack. Who knows what will happen in the future, maybe this will be extended, but in the meantime we will all have to allow that extra bit of time. Me, I try to use regional airports whenever possible. I like being able to leave home just 90 minutes before departure!

I'm looking at buying travel insurance for my holiday and lots of companies quote for all levels of cover but all have the same overriding exclusion on their policies. They exclude any acts of terrorism and security delays. Why is this? I know security is tighter now but for good reason. My family and I, along with countless thousands got got stuck at Heathrow last year when the airport was shut. Also, what's to stop some nutter driving another car into our airports this summer? If it's going to happen again now's the time? Personally, I don't relish the thought of sleeping in the airport again whilst the airlines and insurance companies say there's nothing they can do cos we don't cover you for security or terrorism threats.

Credit Card Travel Insurance is not the real thing. If I had relied on my credit card company to cover my medical bills and repatriation costs when I broke my neck in Spain, I know that I would still be paying the bill!

There is no substitute for adequate travel insurance and for the price if one meal it is something that any traveller should have when travelling.

Although not quite suicidal, not having proper travel insurance borders on the insane! colebranel.co.uk
