Airport Security on Planes - It’s Barking Mad!
Okay, I’m sure we all understand and are grateful to the authorities for their efforts to keep us safe while travelling. However, a recent news report was hard to comprehend… Despite all the ongoing kerfuffle about items we can and cannot pack in hand luggage on planes, plus having to pack liquids in silly little plastic bags for them to look at… Cabin crew on a recent Virgin Atlantic flight from Chicago to London feared they had a drunk passenger to contend with - until they discovered that the strange and disturbing howling noise was coming from a poodle smuggled inside someone’s bag in an overhead locker! Do we all feel safer now?
Even worse security lapses have been revealed by the TSA (the US Transport Security Administration). Undercover agents have apparently been successfully smuggling all sorts of items onto planes without too much trouble. Our UK Department of Transport refused to comment when asked if they have conducted similar security tests. Good for them! If security is lapse at major airports then why on earth are these lapses being announced so the terrorists know the weak spots to target?
Apparently, the general opinion among security powers-that-be is that there’s only so much technology can do in detecting bombs and dangerous items. Instead the focus is on profiling and trying to keep suspicious people off the planes – and confiscating your tweezers! Maybe they shouldn’t worry so much about metal detectors, bombs hidden in shoes, or confiscating our lotion and water bottles, but instead check for exploding pets!
