Budget Airline News - Ryanair, Easyjet and GB Airways
In case you haven’t got the hint yet - Ryanair is determined to have us all doing our check-in online and take hand luggage only. They’ve bumped up the fee for checking bags online from £5 to £6 per bag. If you choose to check your bags at the airport it will cost £12 now instead of £10 per bag. Airport check-in - rather than using the free online service will cost £3 instead of £2. They have warned that there could be more increases (until they succeed in getting the majority of us to comply). Apparently it’s all about cutting their costs and therefore keeping the fares low for us.
Easyjet takes over GB Airways at the end of March this year, along with several of their Airbus planes. With the larger planes they’ll be able to fly further afield. Watch out for budget fares to destinations like Tenerife, Egypt and Cyprus. Be warned though that ‘budget’ will still mean less leg room and paying for your food and drinks despite the longer flights.
Anyone with a pre-booked flight with GB Airways prior to the end of March can expect the same service they have always offered. However, those with departures after March 31st (after Easyjet takes over) will be subjected to a no-frills experience and have to pay for their food and drinks. According to reports, pre-booked passengers can claim a refund if they’d prefer to cancel.
