Travel to France and Elsewhere in Europe – Watch for Fake Euros
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has published a warning from the police to watch out for counterfeit euros. Apparently the fake notes are in circulation in France and other parts of Europe. You should be okay if you obtain notes from a bank or Bureaux de Change, but be wary of notes passed to you elsewhere.
Since last summer there have been delays at the passport controls at Channel ports, so if travelling by ferry allow extra time – especially if travelling in large groups. Sea France ferry services from Dover to Calais continue to suffer disruptions due to strike actions, so check the current situation before you leave.
On the whole, travel to France is safe but you have to be aware of the risks from petty crime and terrorism which exist anywhere in the world these days. Hundreds of passports are lost or stolen in France every year, and there is a fairly high incidence of accidents on the roads. Visit our Travel Guide to France and click on the link for updated FCO travel advice.
The FCO advises that you should always take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy before you travel. For an instant quote click here. If you plan to take your car, caravan, or motorcycle over to Europe don’t forget Vehicle Breakdown insurance – Click here. We also have motorcycle travel insurance.
