Tips for Visiting the South of France and Monaco Grand Prix
The spectacular Monaco Grand Prix takes place from 23rd to 25th May this year. The South of France and Cote d’Azur is a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year. However, expect to deal with crowds during high season – especially during the school holidays.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have issued warnings to watch out for counterfeit Euro notes in Europe. However, you should be safe if you get your currency from a Bureaux de Change or a bank. As is the case with most places in the world these days, you must always be on your guard for pickpockets and thieves. Many British tourists have their passports stolen on the continent every year. It is a smart idea to make a photocopy of the information page and keep it in a separate location. It would be easy to forget that Monaco (including Monte Carlo!) is not a member of the EU but an independent nation. Therefore, the EHIC card will not do you any good should you be taken ill or have an accident while visiting Monaco/Monte Carlo. Many people take a trip over to France thinking they don’t need to take out private travel insurance because they have the EHIC. However, even in France, the EHIC is limited in what it can do to help if you or a family member should become ill. It is a good idea to have the EHIC, but even smarter to take out travel insurance to go along with it and ensure that you are covered for most eventualities.
