Travel Advice for AC Fiorentina vs Glasgow Rangers UEFA Match
This Thursday, May 1 2008, is the date for the big game in Florence, Italy. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have issued an advisory for fans planning to attend the match. Fans should visit the site for more information, but we are passing along an excerpt:
The police will be keeping the city under tight surveillance and severe penalties will be levied for anyone found tampering with or climbing on monuments. Fans are advised to keep their passport with them (it’s a good idea to take a photocopy of the information page which should be kept separate from the passport).
As May 1st is a public holiday in Italy many shops, restaurants and facilities will be closed. Public transport will run on limited schedules so leave sufficient time to get to the stadium on time. Special buses will operate from Piazza Independenza. The checking in process could be slow and the stadium will be open several hours prior to kick-off to allow for this. All tickets must be validated. Rules for entry to the stadium should be commonsense, such as no flares, fireworks or weapons. Fans are advised not to wear belts with large studs or buckles – as they may be confiscated!
Fans are asked to comply with police and be courteous at all times. Visit the FCO website for complete information and advice (it contains other useful tips, such as not being tempted to purchase items from illegal street vendors - police can impose heavy fines!)
