From May 5th, Ryanair will once again increase charges for checking in luggage at the airport from £6 to £8. That’s £16 per bag for a round trip. The fee for airport check-in will rise from £3 to £4, making a total of £8 per round trip. The airline is anxious to encourage passengers to avoid these charges by taking carry-on luggage only (up to 10 kg) and checking-in online. They have vowed to continue increasing the fees until the majority of its customers comply. (Passengers who book prior to May 5th will avoid the rise in charges).
On a more positive note, Ryanair has begun selling budget tickets for two new routes this summer (June-August) from Stansted to Rimini, Italy and Beziers, France.
The low-cost Spanish airline Clickair will begin a service three times a week from Gatwick to Vigo in Galicia, NW Spain on June 21st.
Great news for those of us living here in East Anglia. From July 5, 2008 three new services to Spain from our local Norwich airport will begin operating. The weekly flights will include Norwich to Barcelona, Palma and Alicante with the Spanish carrier LTE. There are plans to extend the services to a more frequent service and for additional flights and destinations if all goes well. LTE plans to continue the service throughout the winter months too, so let’s hope the flights are well supported so that we can all take advantage of this very convenient way to travel from Norfolk.
Those dreaming of a Mediterranean cruise can take advantage of Fred Olsen’s flights from Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol and Stansted to Civitavecchia (Rome) during May. From May 1st the flights will whisk them to Rome to unite them with the cruise ship ‘Balmoral’ for any of the three cruises on offer which will eventually see the ship return to Dover.
