Advice re Euro 2008 UEFA Championship Matches in Austria & Switzerland

The 13th UEFA football matches in Austria and Switzerland are scheduled to begin on June 7th and run through June 29th.   Anyone planning to visit these countries and who is not a football fan should be aware that the venues will be very busy and accommodation could be scarce as many hotels are already booked.  Tickets for all the games are already sold out and fans are warned to beware of ticket touts.  However, fans without tickets will be able to watch the match on outdoor screens in designated UEFA Fan Zones.

The cities acting as hosts for the games in Austria are Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klangenfurt.  The final match will be held in Vienna on 29th June.  The cities affected in Switzerland are Basel, Bern, Geneva and Zurich.

Check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for updated information about the matches and dates of the venues.  Their website is also a must-read for travel advice, the rules and laws in those countries, visa and passport information, and how to avoid problems with the authorities!
