Tips and Advice for Travel to Turkey - Smokers Beware!
Before setting off on holiday to any foreign country, it is always a good idea to read up on the local laws and customs and brush up on your travel etiquette.
Turkey has banned smoking on all public transport, which includes taxis, trains and ferries. The smoking ban also applies in public venues like playgrounds and stadiums. The ban will be extended to include restaurants, bars and cafes in July of 2009. Failure to comply may result in a fine.
- Possessing or getting involved in illegal drugs in any way could result in a long prison sentence of up to 10 years.
- Know the dress code for entering religious shrines or mosques
- It is the law in Turkey for everyone to carry photographic identity (it’s a good idea to make a copy of your passport information/photo page and keep it with you)
