Silverjet Hopes Crash and Future for Airline Industry Looks Grim
All the valiant attempts to save Silverjet have now failed. This is sad news for its 420 now-redundant staff members. It appears there will be no silver lining for the all business-class airline which was based at London’s Luton airport with flights to New York and Dubai.
With cutbacks having already been made by United, American and Continental Airlines, there are fears that more U.S. carriers will be forced to follow suit and fares will no doubt have to rise. The future for the airlines and subsequent effect on the economy will be dire throughout the world if the price of oil stays at the current level, or rises further.
