British Airways Launches OpenSkies Flights Between Paris and New York
Today marks the launch of OpenSkies, BA’s new subsidiary airline. The European Union’s deregulation of transatlantic flights under the Open Skies agreement has made this possible. The EU decision, reached in March of 2008, allows airlines to fly between any E.U. and U.S. destination. Formerly, British Carriers were only able to fly to the United States via direct flights from London.
The new OpenSkies flights will operate between Paris Orly airport and New York’s JFK airport from today with plans to start up additional flights from Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan to New York by the end of the year. The Boeing 757 aircraft on the new route have been reconfigured, reducing the normal seating capacity of 180 seats to 82 in an effort to ensure maximum comfort and excellent service. There are three classes of seating and three fare types which are designated as Flexible, Semi-flexible and Restricted.
British Airways Executive Club members will have the opportunity to earn BA mileage, Tier points and cash in awards on the OpenSkies flights. For more information visit the OpenSkies website.
