Planning a Wedding or Civil Partnership Ceremony Overseas?
Where do you start? For basic advice and guidance on complying with the local laws and customs of your chosen country we recommend a visit to the Foreign Office (FCO) website.
It often takes months to obtain the required documents and visas - and sometimes proof of residency is required. It’s a good idea to obtain written quotes from the wedding planners and all involved in the organization of the event. The British Embassy in the country where you plan to marry will be able to provide helpful information. Pay a visit to your GP at least six weeks before travel to sort out necessary vaccinations. More wedding advice and information and a list of foreign embassies and contact details is available on the FCO website.
With so much at stake you will need quality travel insurance - as well as insurance to cover the ceremony. Don’t forget to give your guests plenty of notice so they have time to sort out their own documents, visas, and travel insurance!
