Seguro Travel - and Futura Airline - Latest Travel Casualties

Seguro Travel, which also traded as Kent Escapes, has stopped trading.  Unfortunately, they have thousands of holidaymakers currently abroad and many thousands of disappointed customers with advance bookings for package holidays.  The Cheshire-based company flew from airports at Prestwick, Glasgow and Kent to destinations in Portugal, Spain and the Canary Islands. 

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advises customers due to leave on Seguro holidays not to travel to their departure airport because all holidays have been cancelled.  More information and a claim form is available to download from the CAA website. Customers may also be able to claim a refund from their credit card company.

For Seguro customers who are currently abroad on holiday the CAA advises that they should remain at their accommodation until they are advised that alternative flights have been arranged to bring them home. Information will also be made available to them through representatives at their resorts and hotels.

Seguro’s problems are blamed partly on the failure of Spanish airline Futura which Seguro used for the majority of its flights.  Futura is involved in insolvency proceedings due to the high cost of fuel.  It is a sad time for the thousands of affected passengers, as well as all the employees who are now out of a job.

Customers will be taken care of in this case and it is a prime example of why it is so important to make sure that travel agents are bonded and protected under ATOL and ABTA before you book through them.  It is just as important to always take out quality and comprehensive Travel Insurance before leaving on any trip!
