What to do if a Tropical Storm or Hurricane is Heading Your Way

It has been a devastating season for tropical storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean and southern United States.  Would you know what to do if you found yourself in the path of a storm?  The Foreign Office has published some excellent information and advice on its website. 

There are usually advance warnings of storms to give time for travel plans to be changed.  Tropical cyclones occur in different parts of the world at different times of the year and you have a chance of encountering one if your travel plans include any of the following dates or locations:

The Caribbean or Atlantic coasts - from June through November
The Pacific or SE Asia - between November and April
Northern India - between April and June or September through November
Africa’s East Coast - between November and April

Obtaining Travel Insurance is a vital part of planning for any trip.  However, it’s a good idea to keep up with news of any potential problems at your destination (weather, political, civil unrest, etc.) as booking travel after Foreign Office warnings and travel advisories have been posted may invalidate related travel insurance claims.
