Requirements for Single Parents Travelling with Children

According to the Foreign Office (FCO), single parents travelling alone with children should check the current rules and laws of the country before visiting. Documentary proof of parental responsibility, such as a letter of consent, is often required.  There may also be problems with children leaving a country without the necessary documentation.

For example, for travel to Austria a sample letter of consent is available from the website of the British Embassy in Austria.  However, entry into the country can still be problematic for adults who do not have legal parental responsibility over the children travelling with them.

Visit our Travel Guide for Austria which contains a link to the FCO for updated travel advice and information, including links to the Austrian Embassy and British Embassy in Austria. Don’t invite trouble on your next trip – take out Travel Insurance before leaving home!
