Unexpected Early Opening for Many European Ski Resorts
With excellent early snowfall across Europe over the past week many resorts have opened earlier than planned. Glacier skiing is reported to be good, but with very cold temperatures reported.
In Fance, Tignes has opened earlier than the scheduled date of 29 November and Val Thorens is also open with nine lifts operating, but very cold temperatures. Les Deux Alpes and Val d’Isere are scheduled to open on 29 November.
With sunny weather forecast over Swiss resorts this weekend skiing should be great. Some resorts in Andorra are open and more snow is forecast for the coming weekend.
Snow is also blessing resorts on the East Coast of the U.S., with Sugarbush and Killington opening more lifts each day. In Canada, Whistler is open. Blackcomb opened on Thanksgiving Day, 27 November. Vail and Beaver Creek are open and expecting some much-needed snow following unseasonably warm temperatures. Big Sky, Montana is open. In California it has been snowing at Mammoth Mountain – which is very welcome due to recent warm temperatures.
More snow is forecast for the Alps this weekend, with Italian resorts expecting to get their share, so get the skis and boards waxed and ready!
