Skiing This Season? Book Soon to Avoid Disappointment

We have seen reports that 75 percent of skiers and boarders are staying at home this season because of the credit crunch, and saving their money for a summer holiday instead.  It has also been reported that skiers are choosing cheaper resorts, downgrading on accommodation or going self-catering, and packing their own lunches rather than pay to eat at expensive mountain restaurants.

Many travel industry professionals disagree with these opinions, stating that ski trips over the New Year and February half-term periods are already fully booked for many locations.  The recent fantastic snowfall across the Alps has also caused phones to ring as people scramble to take advantage of the great snow conditions and make last-minute bookings – which is not unusual.

Representatives from the Ski Club of Great Britain, Mountain Heaven, Inghams, Peak Retreats and Ski Independence all report that bookings are strong and there is no indication that avid skiers are giving up their ski trips.  They also report an increase in bookings for lower-altitude resorts – which is probably due to the promise of a great snow season (in contrast to many recent years).  January is one of the peak booking months, according to one industry professional, so if you are waiting until the last minute and hoping to find a discount on your ski trip it appears you may be disappointed – or even find that your first choice destination ski resort or accommodation is already fully booked!

Smart skiers never leave home without ski insurance or compromise on adequate levels of cover, so check us out for a cheap quote for your Ski Insurance.
