Argentina Transportation Strikes - Travel Advice

If you plan on jetting off to Argentina over the holidays, or know someone backpacking or travelling there at the moment, we just noticed that the Foreign Office (FCO) have posted an advisory regarding transportation strikes affecting the country during December.

The strikes may affect petrol stations on December 12 and 13, subway workers on December 12, and taxi drivers on December 24 and 25.  There is the possibility of further strikes on December 31 and January 1 2009.  These are the posted dates, but be warned that strikes may occur at any time.   The FCO advises travellers to check local news reports and be prepared to make alternative transport arrangements if necessary.  It is also advisable to avoid going near demonstrations or protests which may occur as a result of the strikes.  Note: British Nationals need an International Driving Permit to drive in Argentina.
