BA and Virgin Reduce Fuel Surcharges on Flights

It’s good to see a reduction in costs being passed along to customers for once.  Today, Virgin Atlantc and British Airways have reduced the fuel surcharge on flights in line with a drop in oil prices.  The price of oil soared to almost $150 per barrel during the summer but is currently trading at less than $50 per barrel. The cuts will make a difference, translating to:

British Airways

  • First and World Class (more than 9 hours) - surcharge reduced by £35 per sector
  • World Traveller (and Plus) reduced by £30 per sector
  • Flights of less than 9 hours reduced by £15-20 per sector
  • European and Domestic flights surcharge reduced by £4 (Club Europe £5) per sector

Virgin Atlantic

  • Surcharge on long-haul flights reduced by £15-35 each sector (depending on cabin-class and destination)
  • Surcharge reduction of £15-20 each sector on shorter flights

Just think… The amount you’ll save on surcharges alone should cover the cost of your Travel Insurance.  Not bad!

Make your money stretch even further with a cheap quote for your Travel Insurance , Ski Insurance or Backpacker Insurance.
