Fiji Travel Advisory - Flights Disrupted
The Foreign Office has issued an advisory about the state of emergency which is still in effect in Fiji following the heavy rains on January 8. The forecast is for high winds and more flooding throughout the group of islands for the next few days. The Northern and Western areas are particularly affected and there have been several deaths. Flash floods have affected dozens of homes and thousands of residents are currently housed in shelters. Transportation is affected due to the rivers flooding and washing out roads. Curfews are in also in effect in Nadi, Sigatoka, Ba and Labasa. The tropical storm season in Fiji runs from November through April.
Airlines are affected by cancellations and there are reported to be thousands of tourists stranded at the airport or at their hotels.
