BA to Offer In-flight Wi-Fi Access on JFK Flights
Good news for business travellers. According to recent reports, British Airways will be offering mobile phone, internet and text access on its all-Business Class transatlantic flights from London City airport to JFK later this year. Initially they plan to offer services which will enable passengers to use Blackberries, laptops (data enabled) and mobile phones for text messaging and data services. Voice calls may come later - subject to feedback from customers. Because of fuel weight restrictions for take-off from London City airport flights will stop for refuelling at Shannon Airport en route to JFK, where passengers will also have the convenience of clearing U.S. Customs and Immigration. Return flights from JFK to London will be non-stop.
In the U.S. United Airlines is the latest carrier to announce plans to offer in-flight internet services on its Boeing 757s for a number of its flights, including JFK to Los Angeles International and JFK to San Francisco International. The service will be available to all passenger classes later this year for a fee of £12.95 per flight. Other carriers already in the process of offering the services in the U.S. are American, Virgin, Delta and Air Canada.
