Ski News – Andorra Avalanche Warnings – Powder Everywhere!

The Foreign Office (FCO) has issued an advisory, per the Andorran authorities, that heavy snowfall throughout Andorra has prompted the enforcement of a ‘High Risk’ avalanche warning.  Access routes into Andorra from France are currently closed so travellers are advised to check with the authorities before setting off, and to be prepared for delays.  Access to Andorra via Spain and La Seu d’Urgell is reported to be open.

We remind skiers and boarders that it is vital to obey all posted notices and warnings as claims under a travel insurance or winter sports policy for accidents are likely to be denied if  a person is found to have put themselves at unnecessary risk.   It is crazy to go skiing without insurance, but insurance does not provide a license to act irresponsibly so it is wise to always act as if you are not insured.

Snowfall across most of Europe has been fantastic recently, as well as North America, and skiers are enjoying excellent powder conditions everywhere.  Vail, Colorado, for instance, has received 13” in the past 48 hours, and 25” during the past week.

Along with the arrival of the precious white gold, unfortunately, comes the danger of avalanches, so always check mountain conditions before taking the lifts up; obey posted warnings and – tempting though it may be – resist entering closed or roped off areas – for your own safety!

Visit our Travel Guide for Andorra and follow the link for the Foreign Office (FCO) for updated and important information.  Never risk skiing or boarding, or engaging in any winter sports without taking out Winter Sports insurance.  check out our cheap rates and obtain a quote here.
