Venice Carnival 2009 – ‘Sensation, 6 Senses for 6 Districts’
Everything seems to be in sixes at the moment, with the 6 Nations rugby tournament well underway. In case you are thinking of a quick getaway to Venice don’t forget that Carnival is already underway - with events running from February 13 through February 25. The theme of the 2009 Carnival is based upon the senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste, with the sixth sense being interpreted as the mind - or imagination. Events related to each sense are being held in different districts of the city over the two week period.
The magical city of Venice is busy at any time of year but more so during Carnival, so affordable accommodation may be harder to find. The city’s streets, squares, and canals are taken over by theatre troupes, acrobats, musicians and artists of all kinds. Masked and costumed revellers from all over the world congregate during this annual celebration and those who can afford it attend the glamorous masked balls and events.
