Eurostar Resumes Full Services
Eurostar, the high-speed train service which links the UK with mainland Europe, resumed normal service yesterday following the fire in the Channel Tunnel last September. According to an announcement on the website, they will be offering faster non-stop journeys and more frequent services – which will translate to more than a million extra seats being available during 2009.
This is great news for business travellers, especially as the first trains of the day arrive in Brussels before 9 am. Departures are from St Pancras International, and the services from Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International will be focused on convenience for business travellers – with the addition of a new direct service from Ashford to Brussels. Business travellers can opt for the Premier service for a faster check-in, special coaches with meals served at the seat, and comfortable business lounges.
The Eurostar travels through the Eurotunnel to more than 100 destinations throughout Belgium, France and the Netherlands, including Brussels, Paris, Calais, Lille, the French Alps (skiing destinations), Avignon and Disneyland Paris.
Good news for the environment: Eurostar journeys are all carbon neutral, at no additional cost to the customer, with plans to reduce emissions 25% by 2012. They are working with Friends of the Earth on a Tread Lightly initiative.
Note: According to the Eurostar website, passengers with plans to travel on Eurostar between now and March 11 should check the timetable as some departure times may have changed.
