Passport and EHIC Expiration Dates - Check them Now!
With all the current doom and gloom, we need to start looking forward to the summer holidays. However, as a reminder, don’t mess up your needed break by neglecting to renew important documents like your passport and EHIC. Now is a good time to find them, blow the dust off, and check the expiration dates (the EHIC is valid for five years). Make a note of expiration dates on your computer or calendar so that you remember to renew them well in advance of travel. There’s nothing worse than discovering an about-to-expire passport a week before your departure date – plus renewing at short notice is very costly.
Most travellers will already be aware that the E111 was replaced by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) several years ago. The EHIC should not be used as a substitute for Travel Insurance as it only covers basic emergency medical treatment. For example, the EHIC does not cover personal liability, lost luggage, air-ambulance or medical repatriation (especially important for skiers). An air ambulance transfer back to the UK would set you back many thousands of pounds. For more information about the EHIC click here.
