Dog Sledding - Iditarod Race is Underway!
Even though winter is approaching the end, there is still plenty of skiing going on in the Northern Hemisphere – and dog sledding too. The famous Iditarod race began last Saturday, starting off from Anchorage, Alaska. The Iditarod covers more than 1,850 km (1,150 miles) and can take the mushers and their teams of 16 dogs anything from eight to 12 days to finish. While we are warming up a bit here in the UK, the temperature in Alaska is forecast to be -9C tonight, so that should qualify as not a two- but a three-dog night.
For more information about the race, visit the official Iditarod website. Feast your eyes on some wonderful pictures of the mushers and their sled dogs in action.
