Venice Tickets – New Online Booking Service
Hate the crowds in Venice? Along with the inevitable pigeons and sellers of ‘designer’ handbags on sheets it’s all part of the magical Venice experience. However, why not cut down on some of the stress of organising your trip by purchasing tickets in advance.
In February this year Venice Connected began offering a new service for the purchase of tickets online ahead of your arrival. Tickets are available for public transport (including vaporettos) and attractions such as the Doge’s Palace, museums, car parks and even public toilets! They recommend that you book at least fifteen days in advance to obtain the cheapest rates.
After a quick look at their website, the savings of a few euros here and there can add up – especially if you are on a tight budget and taking the family. For example, you can save about €3.00 for a 3-day vaporetto pass, €2.50 on an airport transfer return, and even €1.00 on a daily toilet card! Purchasing through ‘Venice Connected’ has the added advantage of free wi-fi access, which normally costs €3.00 and entry to the Venice Casino, which normally costs €10.00. (Current wi-fi locations include St. Mark’s Square and San Giuliano Park).
Saving a few euros is a bit of a joke really though, considering the price of everything in Venice. Last time I was there it cost about €28.00 for a beer and gin & tonic at one of the tables in St. Mark’s Square. We were unaware that there was a €10.00 charge for sitting and listening to the ‘musica.’ No complaints as the orchestra was very good and it was a lovely experience – but you might not want to do it too often!
Visit our Travel Guide for Venice for more information and follow the FCO Country Advice link to access updated travel advice from the Foreign Office website.
Let us provide a quote for cheap Travel Insurance – with no musica or other hidden extras!
