It’s Still Snowing! Time to Squeeze in Another Ski Trip?

The snow started early for the 2008-2009 season and doesn’t know when to stop.  Let’s hope the trend continues for next season because skiers and riders are now well and truly spoilt.

Fresh snow continues to fall in the Alps and with Easter coming late this year there’s a good chance of picking up a cheap last minute ski deal.  With temperatures warming up it’s always best to choose a high elevation resort for the best snow conditions and avoid the slush.  Many European resorts remain open through the end of April or even early May.  It might be worth trying your luck for a space on the Ski Train or Snow Train from London – as they were advertising late deals recently.

Conditions are truly great in the Colorado Rockies and Canada due to massive amounts of snow recently and a forecast for even more fresh powder.  Spring skiing isn’t always this great so take advantage of it if you can.  In British Columbia Whistler remains open for skiing and riding until June 14 and Blackcomb Mountain through May 18 – conditions permitting.

As an example, Vail has enjoyed 7” of fresh snow in the past 24 hours, 44” in the past week, with a 73” base.  It’s a very similar story at nearby Keystone, Breckenridge and other resorts in the Colorado Rockies.  Don’t forget that Arapahoe Basin often remains open through mid-June depending on conditions.
