Airlines in the U.S. Prepare to Offer WiFi on Flights
Airlines appear to be scrambling for new ways to beat the travel slump and attract passengers. Several U.S. carriers are in the process of offering high altitude surfing with the introduction of WiFi on flights.
Virgin America offers the service on their Los Angeles-Washington D.C. and Boston routes, and plans to have WiFi available on all its flights by the summer.
Delta Airline has plans to introduce the service. AirTran Airways plans to equip its fleet of planes with WiFi for LAX departures from July. American Airline will allow passengers to use their laptops, phones and PDAs to access the internet once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000’.
Charges for the service are anticipated to range between $5.95 and $12.95 (U.S.) depending on the length of flight and type of device used.
