Isle of Man TT Motorcycle Race – May 30-June 12 2009

The normally tranquil Isle of Man is once again buzzing with excitement and the roar of exhaust as practice sessions for the 2009 Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) Race are already well underway.  John McGuinness, 14-time TT winner, has recorded an average lap speed of over 129 mph on the Honda Superbike, passing the speed trap at over 191 mph.  Practice week ends on June 5 and race week runs from June 6-13.

The race attracts thousands of visitors and around 12,000 bikes each year for the up-close racing action on the 37 mile course.  Many visitors choose to take their bikes over and camp and picnic on the island.  Plenty of events and activities are on offer apart from the superb racing action. The TT Street Party gets into full swing during the evenings on Loch Promendade in Douglas where visitors can enjoy Manx beer, watch clips on a big screen and enjoy motorcyle stunt riding displays. 

Travelling to the Isle of Man can be easily made by sea or by air.  The ferry operator for the Isle of Man is the Steam Packet Company.  A choice of airlines fly into Ronaldsway airport including Flybe, Aer Arann, Manx2, Loganair, Blue Islands and Eastern Airways.  Visit the Isle of Man Guide for more information about the island.

Note: The reciprocal healthcare agreement between the UK and the Isle of Man is still in effect but terminates on March 31, 2010. It will be wise to take out Travel Insurance for next year’s TT! races!
