Movie ‘End of the Line’ Opens on World Oceans Day June 8, 2009
The ‘End of the Line’ is a new must-see film coming to UK theatres on World Oceans Day - Monday, June 8 2009.
This is the first major documentary film about the impact of overfishing on the world’s oceans, and it is likely to receive the same attention as Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. The film is intended as a wake-up call and reminder how we can all make better choices and make a difference. Watch the trailer here:
The Waitrose supermarket chain is a big supporter. They launched a responsible fishing policy many years ago and have taken steps to obtain fish from sustainable sources, caught using approved methods. We are all encouraged to think about where the fish we eat comes from and the methods used to catch it. The pocket Good Fish Guide, which is mentioned in the film, is free to download online.
The film took two years to make as Charles Clover, an investigative reporter, challenged celebrity restaurateurs and politicians about overfishing of the world’s oceans. The film also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Many locations throughout the world are used, from Alaska to Senegal, to Gibraltar and the Tokyo fish market. The scary message from scientists is that unless we make changes most of our seafood will be gone by 2048!
Visit ‘The End of the Line’ website for more information. There are many great organisations working to protect our oceans, including the Marine Conservation Society, so please support them and join or make a donation.
