Cheap Ski Deal? If You Find One - Grab it!

Judging by recent opinions, reports and survey results from the ski travel industry, the outlook for next ski season does not look good – at least as far as bagging a cheap deal is concerned.

Those who are determined to take their ski holiday despite the economic downturn are advised to book early and jump on any online deals they find as soon as possible.

Recent surveys have shown that travellers who usually take a summer and winter holiday are more likely to forego their winter holiday if forced to choose.

It is anticipated that the price of a ski holiday could rise by ten or fifteen percent for the upcoming ski season, and even twenty percent at peak times.  Many operators are cutting their capacity for next season and the problems are compounded by the Euro exchange rate.  Those who are not fussy about which resort they go to, or the accommodation, may still be able to find a last-minute deal.

This is a good time to start working out your budget.  How much can you comfortably set aside for your winter holiday?  Work out where you would like to go, the type of accommodation you’ll need, the method of getting there (by air or ski train), spending money, equipment rental, lift tickets, lessons - or ski package.

While you are thinking about your holiday, check the expiration dates on your passport and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).  Although it is a good idea to carry the EHIC when travelling to participating EU countries, the EHIC should never be used as a substitute for travel/ski insurance.  Although the EHIC covers most emergency medical expenses in a state-run facility (not private) it does not cover a lot of other expenses which could be financially devastating - such as emergency rescue or airlift from the mountain and medical repatriation back to the UK.

Many travellers will be looking for ways to cut costs, but please remember that it is never a good idea to forego Ski Insurance or Travel Insurance.

You have been warned!
