Travel Insurance is for the Birds!
It’s not just a lot of twittering – perhaps this little bird is trying to tell them something…
If you think it’s okay to go on holiday without travel insurance, think again. Foregoing travel insurance is false economy – not to mention bird-brained! We are not saying this just because we want to sell you a policy – it’s a fact.
According to a recent survey conducted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), many travellers are still taking risks and trying to save a few pounds by going away without the protection of travel insurance. Read what the FCO has to say about travel insurance here.
We just heard of a retired couple who travelled by car to France recently and were badly injured in a car accident. Fortunately, they had travel insurance which paid for their medical repatriation back to a hospital close to their home in the UK where friends and family could visit regularly. Without travel insurance they would have been responsible for those costs.
Many travellers to the Eurozone mistakenly believe that taking their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with them is enough and there is no need to take out travel insurance.
We do harp on about the EHIC, but it is important and it seems that many people still do not possess one – or the one they have may have expired (check). Remember that the EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance as it does not provide cover for many potentially crippling expenses – such as medical repatriation to get you back home!
Before you fly away on your next trip, or migrate south for the winter, remember this little blackbird’s warning – and take cover with travel insurance!
