Snow Train Cancelled so Hurry to Catch Ski Train!
Rail Europe’s Snow Train service to the French Alps is not operating this season (2009-2010) due to the economic climate.
The Snow Train service involved taking the Eurostar to Paris and then connecting with a sleeper Snow Train to resorts in the Alps. It had a disco carriage, so was especially popular with younger skiers, but was not so comfortable for older skiers or families.
The Eurostar service will be operating as usual, so skiers can explore taking the Eurostar to Paris and then connect with regular services to the Alps. The other option is to take the Eurostar Ski Train. However, better act quickly because the demise of the Snow Train will mean seats are likely to get booked up very quickly.
The Eurostar Ski Train operates from December through April from St. Pancras International or Ashford International. Travelling at over 180 mph you will be transported to resorts like Moutiers, Aime-la-Plagne and Bourg-St. Maurice. You can opt to take the night train for maximum time on the slopes, or the day train to relax and take in the scenery. Tickets are on sale now. Visit the Eurostar website for more information.
A word of warning… Don’t take a chance and risk spoiling your ski holiday by neglecting to take out ski insurance. Statistics have shown that many people are still travelling without insurance.
While you’re taking care of all the annoying details of your trip, check that your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) has not expired remember to take it with you. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that the EHIC is a substitute for ski/travel insurance.
The EHIC only covers emergency medical care in a state-run hospital in a participating country (not a private hospital if you should end up in one through no choice of your own). It does not cover ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment. Note that the EHIC is not valid in Andorra.
The EHIC also does not cover other potentially financially crippling mishaps or emergencies, such as mountain or helicopter rescue, repatriation back to the UK, or lost luggage/ski equipment!

We went by snow train last year to Val D’isere France Alps it was very good. Do you know if the trains go from Ebbsfleet, in Kent too? Last trip we went from Ashford but we think Ebbsfleet could be a bit nearer.
thanks

To my knowledge there is now no DIRECT ski train departing from Ebbsfleet. But there are services via Eurostar from Ebbsfleet where you can connect with a European Ski Train to your destination. Hope this helps – have a great trip!

A bit surprised that they had to close it down and not really adapt to the economic conditions. They could’ve catered themselves for the older crowd as well and people could’ve continued with their rail trips.
