Travel Insurance and Swine Flu

Family Travel Insurance

“Is my travel insurance going to cover me for Swine Flu?” This is one of the most popular questions being asked here in the office as you can probably imagine. Luckily, it is also a question that is easy to answer, and that answer is “Yes“.

As with any other medical condition, it should not be pre-existing; i.e. you hadn’t already been struck down with it when booking the insurance but, in short, it is covered just like any other illness or medical condition under the terms and conditions of your insurance.

And what about travelling to Brazil or the USA?  Well, whilst in the first instance these seemed to be the centre of the disease, at the time of writing the Foreign & Commonwealth Office do not have any advisory notices not to travel.  However, they do recommend, rather sensibly, that you should monitor the situation. The FCO have a section about Swine Flu which will be relevant to all travellers.

You can also find information about the pandemic at the World Health Organisation’s website.

You should of course check your policy documents, particularly if your insurance is not with Travel Insurance Direct (we can’t speak for anyone else!), and bear in mind that conditions may change so, if in doubt, please ask.

Happy travels,

Richard
