Venice Regatta Sept 6 2009
The 2009 Venice Regatta takes place this Sunday, September 6. Also, known as the Regata Storica (Historic Regatta), this spectacle on Venice’s beautiful Grand Canal has been a tradition dating back many centuries.
The programme begins on Thursday, September 3, with the Blessing of the Gondolini. On Sunday afternoon the colourful Historical Water Pageant takes place with gondoliers and passengers dressed in period costume. The parade starts from St. Mark’s and proceeds all the way down the Grand Canal.
There are many planned events for Regatta day, including races for young rowers up to age 13, and a women’s regatta. The finishing line is located outside Ca’Foscari.
