Earthquakes & Tsunami – Advisories in Effect
The recent earthquakes and tsunami affecting Indonesia and many South Pacific islands are reported to have caused more than one hundred deaths so far, but the full extent of the devastation is still not known. Entire villages are said to have been wiped out and thousands left homeless
The British Foreign and Commonwealth office (FCO) have issued advisories ‘against all but essential travel’ until further notice for Samoa, American Samoa and affected areas of the Tongan island of Niuatoputapu. President Obama has declared American Samoa a major disaster area, which warrants federal financial assistance.
To check for updates on the situation and FCO travel advisories, visit the FCO website: fco.gov.uk.
(Important Note: Once the FCO has issued advisories against travel to an area, any travel which is subsequently booked to those areas while advisories are in force may invalidate any related travel insurance claims)
