Kenya - Visa and Passport Advice for Visitors
According to the latest Foreign Office (FCO) advice, we are reminded that Kenya has strict rules regarding entry requirements. For example:
- British passport holders must obtain a visa to enter Kenya - except those under 16 years of age
- Passports must have blank space for a visa – two blank pages recommended
- If passport pages are full and there is insufficient space for the visa - entry to Kenya will be denied
- Passports must have at least six months’ validity remaining
- Visitors are required to pay Airport Departure Tax before leaving Kenya, but check to see whether it is included in the price of your airline ticket
- It is illegal to work without a Work Permit (includes voluntary work and self-employed) and there are often delays obtaining visas
- Adults travelling alone with children may be required to show documents when entering or leaving
This is just a snippet of all the great advice included. Visit our Travel Guide for Kenya and click on the link included for the FCO Country Advice to review other important information -such as fees for different types of visas and how to obtain them.
Don’t forget to take out adequate travel insurance and make sure it covers all your planned activities.
If you intend to go on safari check the travel insurance policy section regarding ‘Hazardous Activities’. Generally, participating in an activity on a ‘casual’ basis (e.g. hot air ballooning, scuba diving, snorkelling, charity work) is included in most travel policies. ‘Casual’ basis means on an unplanned or incidental basis, and not an activity that is the main purpose of the trip - such as a sailing or scuba diving holiday. If you are unsure about the levels of cover call and ask before you leave home.
