Globespan Airline Fails
Another devastating blow for the airline industry – for passengers with reservations – and staff who have lost their jobs - all just before Christmas.
Globespan, a Scotland-based airline has gone into administration and all flights have been cancelled and grounded. Globespan customers expecting to fly tomorrow are advised to stay at home, or attempt to make other arrangements. The administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers are currently in touch with passengers affected by the airline’s demise.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is stepping in to repatriate hundreds of holidaymakers currently abroad with Globespan package holidays.
It is reported, however, that thousands who booked their flights directly through the airline will not qualify for CAA protection. Efforts are being made to bring the holidaymakers home via other airlines at reduced fares. Tens of thousands more passengers are reported to have flights booked through Globespan. Some have ATOL protection, but the majority are not protected and will have to look to their credit card company or travel insurance for possible remedies.
Globespan customers can access contact numbers and information on the Globespan and CAA websites. Those who do not qualify for CAA or ATOL protection should look to their credit card provider, and check their travel insurance policy to see if it includes cover for ‘Scheduled Airline Failure’.
