Wintry Weather Disrupts Christmas Travel
Feel like you’re caught in a snow globe?
The snow may look pretty and provide plenty of fun for kids, but it is causing havoc with transportation as many roads are closed or in treacherous condition, and airports are cancelling flights or experiencing serious delays.
If you have immediate plans to travel it would be wise to call your airline to confirm your flight before leaving home. The freezing weather is affecting most of the U.K. and Northern Europe, as well as the east coast of the U.S. where many flights have been cancelled.
Many U.K. airports are affected, including Manchester and Bristol, and airports in Paris and Schiphol are affected by cancellations and delays.
The road breakdown services have been very busy, with thousands of motorists requiring assistance. The roads in the south of England, and Kent in particular, have been a mess due to the Channel Tunnel closure and back-up onto the M20 motorway.
If you must venture out onto the roads, remember to take emergency supplies, such as warm clothing and footwear, blankets, food and water. (A wind-up flashlight/radio/charger would be a good investment).
In the last minute rush to try to get away, have you remembered to take out travel insurance?
