Haiti Donations – Confused? DEC Appeal Launches Today
It is heartbreaking watching the horrific events in Haiti following the devastating earthquake. We all have our favourite charities, but at times like this it can be confusing trying to decide which charity is the best to donate to.
The answer to the dilemma may be the UK Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC). The DEC has been in existence since 1963 and acts as an umbrella organisation for 13 humanitarian aid agencies (UK registered). It coordinates aid responses following major catastrophic events around the world. (To see a list of the 13 charities visit the DEC website). The DEC ensures that funds raised are used to provide the most effective relief following a disaster.
The organisation is today officially launching its Haiti Earthquake Appeal, with help from various broadcasters, including the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Al-Jazeera.
The DEC donation line is open at 0370 60 60 900, or use the DEC website.
Other ways to donate to DEC can be via any Post Office or high street bank (quoting Freepay 1449), by post (send a cheque), by downloading a donation form from the website, and CAF card (Charities Aid Foundation).
