Happy Valentine’s Day!

This Sunday, 14 February 2010, is St. Valentine’s Day (just in case you had forgotten).

Not all cultures recognise the occasion of course, but if you live in one that does we’d hate for you to be in the dog house for neglecting your significant other…

If you don’t have a s.o. then why not treat yourself or - better yet – do something nice for a relative, friend, neighbour, or any person who might be spending the day alone and feeling unloved and forgotten.  Spare a thought also for those who are unable to be with their loved ones.

There’s plenty going on this weekend for armchair sports spectators, with the Winter Olympics, Six Nations rugby and America’s Cup races, to name a few.  Among many other events, it is also Rio Carnival, Venice Carnival, Chinese New Year, and in the U.S. it’s President’s Day, and half-term in the UK.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere the days are starting to pull out, with more much needed hours of daylight.  At last it feels as if spring is near – even if we still have snow in some areas of the UK.  It’s great to see snowdrops poking their heads out of the cold ground.

Wherever you are in the world, enjoy the weekend – and next week also if you are on holiday.  If heading off for a romantic getaway, don’t forget to protect your trip with travel insurance.  If skiing or boarding are in your plans please don’t leave your luck to fate - purchase ski insurance before you leave home.

You may be lucky in love, but neglect to purchase travel insurance and you could find yourself very much alone when it comes to sorting out the mess if things go awry.  The costs for emergency medical care might easily break your wallet – and your heart.

Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day – from the team here at Travel Insurance Direct.  Travel safe!
