Ashes Tour of Australia 2010-2011

Those with plans to travel out to Australia to support England or Australia in the Ashes this coming winter will be busy booking flights and accommodation.

Several warm-up games are scheduled between November 2010 and January 2011.

Matches will be held at various locations including Perth, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra.  Visit the official England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) website for the schedule and check for updates.

Visit our Travel Guide to Australia and click on the link for the Foreign Office (FCO) ‘Know Before You Go’ campaign for updated and important travel advice, which includes the following:

  • British nationals are required to obtain a visa to enter Australia
  • Have a minimum of six months’ validity on your passport, especially if you plan to travel to other countries before returning to the UK
  • Travel with ample funds to cover the stay, as well as a readily accessible emergency fund
  • It is necessary to hold a return ticket or ticket for an onward flight

British nationals visiting Australia are eligible for treatment under Australian Medicare - as a reciprocal agreement exists between the UK and Australia.  However, Australian Medicare does not extend to pre-existing medical conditions, outpatient medicines, ambulance service and medical evacuation and repatriation.  Therefore, it is very important to purchase comprehensive travel insurance for your trip before leaving home.

Check that global roaming is activated on your mobile phone, and be aware that using a mobile phone while travelling can be very expensive.  It may be cheaper to purchase an Australian SIM card.
