Eurostar Ski Train Bookings
With the sun shining and the summer holidays only just upon us it seems way too early to think about snow and skiing. However, die-hard skiers and boarders will know from experience that the early bird catches the best deals – and the best powder!
The Eurostar Ski Train to the French Alps runs from 19 December 2010 through 16 April 2011. Tickets have been on sale since 13 July so hurry to book your seat departing Ashford International in Kent or St. Pancras in London. They will transport you to resorts such as Bourg-St-Mourice, Aime-la-Plagne, and Moutiers with access or connections on to other nearby popular ski areas. Tickets for connections from Paris to resorts in Switzerland will be available later in the year, according to Eurostar.
We checked and it seems that the Snow Train, operated by Rail Europe, will not (once again) be operating its service for the upcoming ski season. This method of getting to the slopes, in particular the Tarantaise and resorts such as Meribel, Val Thorens, Chamonix and Tignes, was a favourite with the party set because of the disco carriage. However, there are other ways to reach train connections to French and Austrian resorts via Paris.
Budget airlines Ryanair and Easyjet have also announced their winter routes for 2010-2011 so watch all the airline websites for deals.
If you haven’t already applied for your (FREE) European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) why not do it now – but remember that it is not a substitute for comprehensive travel/ski insurance. (The EHIC, for example, covers emergency medical treatment in a state-run facility, but does not cover ongoing medical care, medical repatriation, or many other travel-related mishaps).
