Mexicana Airline Bankruptcy
Mexicana airline has been around since the 1920s and is one of the world’s oldest airlines, as well as Mexico’s largest airline.
Mexicana flies dozens of national and international routes including Europe, the Caribbean, South America, the United States and Canada.
Passengers holding tickets with Mexicana are advised to contact the airline or their travel agent for advice, or access the Compania Mexicana de Aviacion (CMA) website cmainforma.com/cma-informs/. (Although CMA has suspended sales on flights, according to the website it will continue to operate flights for passengers holding tickets as scheduled).
Note: Domestic and short haul flights operated by its sister companies MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink are not affected, according to the airline’s website.
The airline’s troubles are reported to be due to the recession and effects of the swine flu outbreak which damaged Mexico’s tourism in recent years.
Those planning to visit Mexico are advised to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website for updates and important travel advice and information. The FCO currently has several advisories against travel in effect for travel to certain areas of Mexico. Visit our Travel Guide to Mexico and follow the link for the FCO Country Advice for Mexico.
