Celtic vs FC Utrecht – in The Netherlands
Celtic football club travels out to The Netherlands for a UEFA Europa League match against FC Utrecht on Thursday, 26 August 2010 at the Galgenwaard Stadium (Stadion Galgenwaard) in Utrecht.
Utrecht is situated in the centre of The Netherlands, approx. 33 km/20 miles south-east of Amsterdam. The closest major international airport is Schiphol, near Amsterdam.
The Foreign office (FCO) has provided special travel information for Celtic fans travelling out to support their club. The information includes directions to the stadium and what to expect when you get there.
Don’t forget to take along your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) but it is very important to also take out travel insurance to cover unexpected travel mishaps, including (potentially very expensive) emergency medical repatriation. For example, the EHIC covers emergency medical treatment in a state-run facility, but not much else.
A lot of people are confused about the difference between The Netherlands and Holland. In fact North and South Holland are just two of the provinces within The Netherlands. Amsterdam is in North Holland and Rotterdam and The Hague in South Holland – both bordering the North Sea. Outside the country, the people and the language of The Netherlands are both referred to as Dutch. The currency is the euro and they drive on the right.
Before you set off pay a visit our Travel Guide to The Netherlands and follow the link for the Foreign Office (FCO) for important and updated Country advice and information. Included is important information for those travelling by budget airlines and the limited airport facilities at ‘H’ Pier at Schiphol airport, especially for the elderly or infirm. The FCO website also includes a caution about using drugs in the country.
