Liverpool vs. Trabzonspor
Liverpool travels out to Turkey to meet Trabzonspor Kulubu in a 2nd leg qualifier UEFA Europa League (Avrupa Ligi) football match this Thursday, 26 August 2010.
The venue is the Huseyin Avni Aker stadium in Trabzon. Trabzon is on the northeast coast of Turkey, on the Black Sea.
The Foreign Office (FCO) has put together some very valuable travel information and advice for Reds fans travelling out to support their club. Advice includes information regarding visas, passports, ID, EHIC, the stadium/what to expect, avoiding trouble with the authorities, drinking alcohol and Ramadan (many restaurants and bars may be closed during Ramadan and the fast).
Trabzon is not the easiest or cheapest place to get to, with the best option probably to fly to Istanbul and get a connecting flight to Trabzon. Note that a Visa Fee of £10 (15 euros) is payable upon entry to Turkey, so try to have the exact money ready.
Be warned that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is not valid in Turkey, so play it defensively and take out travel insurance – even if you are only staying one night (check that medical emergency repatriation is included).
Pay a visit our Travel Guide to Turkey and follow the link for the FCO for updated and very important country advice for Turkey, including local laws and customs and other useful links.
