Tour of Britain – Cycle Race
The Tour of Britain 2010 will hit the road soon - so mark your calendars!
The eight-day race starts in Rochdale on Saturday, 11 September and ends in London on Saturday, 18 September 2010.
The Tour is Britain’s largest professional cycle race and attracts the world’s top cyclists, as well as millions of spectators.
Check the tour route to see if the racers will be in an area near you and go out and give them a cheer. Also, be aware that there may be traffic disruption and diversions during the race stages.
Tour Route:
- Stage 1 – 11 Sept – Rochdale – Blackpool (Gtr. Manchester/Lancashire)
- Stage 2 – 12 Sept – Stoke-on-Trent (Staffordshire)
- Stage 3 – 13 Sept – Newtown – Swansea (Wales)
- Stage 4 – 14 Sept – Minehead – Teignmouth (Somerset/Devon)
- Stage 5 – 15 Sept -Tavistock – Glastonbury (Devon/Somerset)
- Stage 6 – 16 Sept – King’s Lynn – Great Yarmouth (Norfolk)
- Stage 7 – 17 Sept – Bury St. Edmunds – Colchester (Suffolk/Essex)
- Stage 8 – 18 Sept – The TFL London Stage (London)
Stage 8 - the final 8-lap stage in London – takes in the Dockyards area of East London, Canary Wharf, and the 2012 Olympic/Paralympic Borough of Newham. Plenty of fun and entertainment is planned from 11am to 9pm, with live music, entertainers and stalls, ending with a firework display at 8:45 pm.

Blackpool is currently developing a 15.5 million pound Tower Festival Headland which will host many outdoor shows. The promenade will be closed for traffic for 5 months from Novermber whilst the transfomration is in progress. The Headland will include a new wedding chapel and an arena with seating for 20,000 people. Just one of the new attractions comming to Blackpool
