Don’t Forget – Clocks Back!
It’s that time of year that many of us dread – British Summer Time ends and the clocks go back. It is dark until 8 am, or much later in the north. We get up in the dark and return home from work in the dark, perhaps not getting much of a glimpse of daylight all day. Ugh.
You may be busy with creepy Halloween fun on Saturday night, but don’t forget to change the clocks before you go to bed. The time change officially occurs in the UK at 2 am on Sunday 31 October.
If you have a flight or other travel planned for Sunday it is even more important not to forget to change your clocks!
Year after year there are polls and discussions about the pros and cons of daylight savings and the clock change. British Prime Minister, David Cameron, is considering introducing a Bill to stay on British Summer Time year round, but it is a particular concern to people living in the north of the country, and in Scotland as their days are shorter anyway. Staying on British Summer Time would bring the UK in line with many other countries of Europe. It is argued that it could also have an impact by saving on energy consumption and emissions.
For more information about the debate, and to voice your feelings and vote, visit the 10:10 ‘Lighter Later’ campaign website.
For now, remember to carry a torch/flashlight and continue ticking off the days until we put the clocks forward when British Summer Time officially begins again on Sunday, 27 March 2011. (Remember: Spring-Foward/Fall-Back).
The good news is that those who are not working on Sunday morning can stay under the warm duvet for an extra hour’s kip!
